Building Wealth Through Purpose: Insights on Business, Investing and Living Meaningfully
Securing your financial future and living a meaningful, purpose-driven life don't have to be mutually exclusive.
In fact, some of today's most successful entrepreneurs, investors and change makers actually use purpose to accelerate profits while making their unique impact.
This intersection where passion meets wealth creation is explored within Fluence Circle, an exclusive peer community for high-achieving executives. Their member trainings, masterminds, and networking facilitate what they call “purposeful profitability.”
Curious if this concept actually works in the real world, I spoke with Michael R., Fluence member for 8 years and serial tech entrepreneur behind companies acquired by Google and Microsoft.
Chasing Money First
Michael shared he spent his early entrepreneurial years strictly chasing deals, not considering how business ventures aligned with personal values. His goals were all oriented toward big exits and maximizing wealth.
While he attained that, he felt a gnawing sense of misalignment.
“I had all the surface badges of success,” Michael told me. “But I was starving for meaning in my daily work beyond just running firms.”
His perspective shifted at a Fluence retreat centered on purpose. A mentor asked what he hoped his legacy would be.
Michael then realized he could directly create companies driving change he wanted to see, like around education access and clean energy.
Accelerating Revenue through Passion Projects
Soon, Michael launched a ed-tech platform from scratch while also repositioning an existing firm toward renewables.
And although these ventures felt most purposeful to him, he initially worried focusing on societal impact might pose a trade-off for profitability.
Yet within 2 years, his passion companies expansion outpaced past ones as he infused a culture of meaning employees responded to.
“I discovered purpose actually measurably grows your profits long term,” Michael said. “My loyal teams were both inspired yet still results driven.”
Now Michael only allocates his time and capital into purposeful businesses, noting they attract top talent and accelerate meaningful revenue far beyond any tradeoffs.
It’s About Legacy
Most Fluence members relate to Michael’s story - realizing they can leverage their gifts simultaneously toward financial freedom and service, understanding genuine fulfillment comes from the marriage.
They see maximizing wealth generation allows increased contribution, granting them wider spheres of influence.
And the meaning behind their efforts keeps them continually engaged in excellence.
Because at the end what do we have beyond impact on those we share life with? As Michael told me softly, “I believe my purpose and staying true to my values will be my legacy.”
The world urgently needs each of our unique stamps and savvy business minds to manifest solutions. Are you ready to build wealth through purpose?
